This page gives an interesting snapshot of Pacifica revenue sources, including license fees from affiliate stations (stations not owned by Pacifica that carry Pacifica programming) (line 93a); taxable income from property rental (line 97b), rental of Pacifica's mailing list (line 103c), and $767,000 for rental of the subcarrier channel of Pacifica's station signals (line 103e). Pacifica obtained an IRS ruling declaring the subcarrier royalties are not "unrelated business income" and therefore are not taxable, saving Pacifica a lot of money in income taxes. (A nonprofit organization that profits from what the IRS calls an "unrelated business" activity must pay taxes on those profits. Pacifica's rental of facilities [line 97b] is an example of such taxable income.)
